BROOKLYN – The Monroe College – Bronx men's basketball team captured its seventh consecutive Region 15 victory on Thursday evening by earning a dominating win over Kingsborough Community College, 92-57, at Kingsborough CC Gymnasium.
The Express (17-9, 11-4 Region 15) strengthen their hold of second place in the Region 15 standings.
Monroe – Bronx fell behind Kingsborough (9-13, 7-11 Region 15) briefly, 2-0, but then went on an 11-3 run to take the lead for good. Monroe inflated its lead to 48-23 by the end of the half and led by as many as 46 during the second stanza before earning the 92-57 victory.
During the evening, the Express shot 49.4% (38-for-77) from the field, forced 26 turnovers, and scored 32 points off Kingsborough's miscues.
Leading the way for Monroe was sophomore forward
Abubakar Kromah who had a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while dishing out three assists and forcing just as many steals. Classmate
Jovan Young tallied 15 points, a trio of assists, and a pair of steals. Second-year guard
Jaream Eason produced 10 points, snatched eight rebounds, and collected two steals. Sophomore forward
Anthony Bannister had a solid game with nine points and eight caroms.
The Express will have a Region 15 showdown on the road on Saturday when Monroe takes on nationally ranked No. 11 and first-place Dutchess Community College. Tipoff at Falcon Hall Gymnasium is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
