Express Women's Basketball Cannot Complete Comeback Against Herkimer

HERKIMER, N.Y. – The Monroe College – Bronx women's basketball team fell to Herkimer Community College, 61-56, at Varsity Gymnasium on Friday evening.
 
The Express (12-11) had the ball down by three, at 59-56, with 14 seconds left in the contest. They had a chance to tie it but could not drain the 3-point attempt. Herkimer grabbed the rebound and added two free throws to clinch the victory.
 
The Express were outscored 34-27 in the first half, but played much better in the second stanza, outscoring the Generals (10-9) by a 29-27 margin during the final 20 minutes of the contest.
 
Leading the way for Monroe – Bronx was freshman guard Tiffany Newsome who scored 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds, blocked four shots, forced three steals, and delivered an assist. First-year guard Daysiah Smith also netted 16 points, while collecting six steals and grabbing a pair of rebounds. 
 
Freshman guard Davian Myers produced seven points and six caroms for the Express. First-year guard Angeleny Cobos tallied seven points and a pair of steals. Rookie guard Tymere Moorer registered two points, six rebounds, and three steals. Sophomore forward Kristina Poitier-Wells recorded four points, five rebounds, one block, and a steal. 
 
Monroe – Bronx will host Suffolk County Community College in a Region 15 battle at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium on Tuesday evening. Tipoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. 

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
