Express Women's Basketball Drops Non-Region Game to NJCAA Division II and No. 10 Union County

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Monroe College – Bronx women's basketball team fell in its non-regional contest to NJCAA Division II, and nationally ranked No. 10, Union County College by a score of 100-35 at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Owls (20-4) led from wire to wire. 
 
Leading the way for the Express (14-15) was freshman guard Daysiah Smith who scored 14 points, grabbed five rebounds, delivered just as many assists, and forced four steals. First-year forward Da'Mya Cheatham grabbed seven boards and blocked a pair of shots. Classmate Tiffany Newsome tallied three assists, a trio of steals, two rebounds, and a pair of blocks.
 
Union County County had six players reach double figures in scoring, including 20 points from sophomore forward Khila Morris who also had six rebounds, just as many assists, and five steals.
 
Monroe – Bronx will host Berkeley College (N.Y.) on Tuesday at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. Prior to that will be a Sophomore Night Ceremony as Smith, Kristina Poitier-Wells, and Xing Stewart-Greer will be honored prior to the opening tip. 

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
