BRONX – The nationally ranked No. 15 Monroe University – Bronx men's basketball team suffered a Region 15 loss to Hostos Community College, 114-77, at The Swamp on Tuesday evening.
The Express drop to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in the region, while the Caimans advance to 7-2 for the season and 5-1 against regional opponents.
Monroe had a 14-11 advantage early in the game, but then Hostos went on a 13-3 run to take the lead for good at 24-17 with 9:24 to go in the opening half. The Caimans built their lead to 20 by the end of the half and then outscored the Express 63-46 during the final 20 minutes of play.
Leading the way for Monroe - Bronx during the evening was freshman
Dimitre Alston who scored a team-high 22 points, while grabbing nine rebounds and gathering two steals. Sophomore

Paolo Avvento netted 10 points each with the former grabbing seven rebounds and the latter snatching two boards and just as many steals. Sophomore
Rene Williams had a solid game with seven points, nine rebounds, a pair of blocks, and a duo of steals. Freshman
Jayquan Lee netted nine points, while classmate
Malike Smart generated seven points, seven caroms, and three assists.
For Hostos, freshman Harry Bonilla led all players with 26 points and six steals, while also grabbing five rebounds and delivering four assists. Sophomore Tyrese Conway produced 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and a trio of steals. Rookie Jadyn Lopez chipped in with 11 points, three rebounds, and two blocks. Freshman Jahmere Campbell had a near double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds to go along with two steals.
Monroe – Bronx will host Bronx Community College in a Region 15 contest at Monsignor Scanlan Gym on Thursday evening. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
