MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 15 Monroe University – Bronx women's basketball team earned a convincing victory over NJCAA Division II Orange County Community College, 77-36, at Orange County CC Gym on Saturday afternoon. Monroe advances to 11-4 and Orange County drops to 2-7.
The Express trailed the Colts early by a score of 4-2 but then scored 11 straight points, capped off by a layup from sophomore
Tymere Moorer, to take the lead for good on their way to the win.
"It is a good way to go into the break," Express Head Women's Basketball Coach
Damel Ling said. "Now we need to rest up, heal, and mentally prepare to make a deep run."
Leading the way for Monroe during the afternoon was second-year player
Tiffany Newsome who scored a game-high 26 points, grabbed eight rebounds, forced eight steals, and delivered three assists.

Tiffany Newsome's energy was the key to our win," Ling said. "She was all over the place on both ends. That energy and activity carried us today.
Sophomore
Makira Bunsie had a solid game for the Express with 13 points and seven rebounds. Rookie
Salimah Williams came off the bench and provided 11 points, eight steals, seven boards, and five helpers. Moorer generated nine points, four steals, and three caroms. Freshman
Amira McCleod netted nine points, dished out three assists, collected just as many steals, and brought down two rebounds. Freshman
Beverly Williams clutched seven boards, scored four points, gathered three steals, and provided two assists. Freshman
Diamondnique Stephenson snatched five rebounds.
Monroe – Bronx will be back in action on Tuesday, January 7, with a game against the Queensborough Community College Club Team. Tipoff at Monroe Athletic Complex, in New Rochelle, N.Y., is set for 6:00 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
