BAYSIDE, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 8 Monroe University – Bronx women's basketball team earned its first victory of the season on Thursday evening by defeating the Queensborough Community College Club Team, 95-28, at RFK Gymnasium.
The Express (1-1) led from wire to wire, jumping out to a 22-1 lead over the Tigers (0-2) and never looking back.
"I thought we played hard tonight," Express Head Women's Basketball Coach
Damel Ling said. "We came with the right mindset and played as a group on both ends"
Five players reached double figures in scoring for Monroe, led by freshman guard
Beverly Williams who generated 14 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Sophomore guard
Jah Gunter also scored 14 points, while collecting a game-high six steals and snatching four boards off the bench. Sophomore guards Tymere Moore and
Tiffany Newsome each scored 10 points, with the former also providing six rebounds, five assists, and four steals. The latter had two rebounds and just as many steals. Sophomore forward
Makira Bunsie produced 12 points and eight rebounds.

Cheyenne Hoxie drained three 3-point field goals for the Express. First-year guard
Latifa Marshall recorded eight points, four caroms, and a duo of steals. Rookie guard
Amira McCleod chipped in with four points, six rebounds, a trio of assists, and just as many steals. Sophomore guard
Arelis Pichardo netted six points, clutched two boards, and dished out just as many assists. Freshman guard
Salimah Williams brought down eight rebounds and tallied three points. Sophomore forward
Da'Mya Cheatham grabbed six caroms. Sophomore guard
Davian Myers finished with five points and eight rebounds.
"Tonight, we were able to show our depth which will be a key for us throughout the season," Ling said.
Monroe – Bronx will compete in the Northeast JUCO Cup Tournament, at Massasoit Community College, this weekend. The Express will battle Fulton - Montgomery Community College in the first round on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff at Massasoit Gymnasium is set for 4:00 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
