No. 15 Express Women's Basketball to Host Massasoit on Monday, January 22

BRONX – The nationally ranked No. 15 Monroe College – Bronx women's basketball team will battle Massasoit Community College, in a non-regional matchup at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium, on Monday, January 22. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.

The Express (10-7) are coming off a come-from-behind Region 15 victory on the road over LaGuardia Community College, 69-52, on Saturday, January 20, and have won two of their last three games.
 
Monroe - Bronx will be led by rookie guard Daysiah Smith who is averaging 21.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 4.1 steals per game. Sophomore forward Kristina Poitier-Wells is bringing down 7.0 rebounds per contest and has blocked 21 shots so far this year.
 
Massasoit (4-6) is coming off a dominating victory at home over Springfield Technical Community College, 100-15, back on January 18.
 
The Warriors will be led by rookie forward Natasia Mierez who is netting 14.3 points, gathering 8.9 rebounds, and picking up 3.7 steals per game. Freshman guard Destiny Morales is scoring 11.3 points, snatching 5.3 caroms, collecting 4.6 steals, and delivering 2.3 assists per outing. 
 
This marks the second head-to-head matchup between Monroe – Bronx and Massasoit all-time. The Warriors won the first meeting, 76-33, on their home court back on February 7, 2020.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
