BRONX – The Monroe College – Bronx basketball teams will conclude their three-game Region 15 road trip with a doubleheader against LaGuardia Community College, on Saturday, January 20. Tipoff at LaGuardia CC Sports Gymnasium for the women's game will be at noon, followed by the men at 2:00 p.m.
There will be live stats for both the
women's and
men's contests.
The two Monroe – Bronx basketball teams are coming off losses to Hostos Community College, at The Swamp, on Thursday, January 18.
For nationally ranked No. 15 Monroe – Bronx (9-7, 6-2 Region 15), freshman guard
Daysiah Smith is averaging 20.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 3.9 steals per game this season.
For the Express men's basketball team (10-9, 4-4 Region 15), sophomore forward
Abubakar Kromah is producing 20.0 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.8 steals per contest so far this year.
For the LaGuardia women's basketball team, second-year forward Olithia Roach is leading the way in 2023-24 with 17.6 points and 12.6 rebounds per outing.
On the men's side for the Red Hawks, sophomore guard Arthur Dukes is scoring 32.2 points per game, which ranks him No. 1 in NJCAA Division III men's basketball.
The Express women's basketball team had their first all-time battle with LaGuardia on February 2,2023. Monroe earned the win, 113-36, at LaGuardia CC Sports Gymnasium.
Saturday marks the second head-to-head meeting between the Express and Red Hawks men's teams. Monroe won the first encounter, 91-34, at LaGuardia CC Sports Gymnasium back on February 2, 2023.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
