Express Finish Season Series Against Suffolk

The Express hit the road tomorrow, Sunday, April 23rd for a non-conference doubleheader against Bucks County Community College

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Monroe Express softball returned home briefly on Saturday afternoon for a Region 15 doubleheader against the Suffolk County Community College Sharks falling 17-1 in game one and 18-0 in game two. The Express fall to 0-22 with the pair of losses.

Game one: Suffolk Sharks 17, Monroe Express 1

In a one-sided ball game, the Express watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in their 17-1 loss to Suffolk in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. The Sharks scored on a walk by Brooke Bove, a groundout by Angelica Magliocco, and a double by Gabriella Vacchio in the first inning.

Suffolk got on the board in the first inning as Bove drew a walk, scoring one run. The Sharks scored 11 runs in the second. Suffolk's big bats were led by Jaden Thompson, Bove, Magliocco, Vacchio, Alyssa Jones, and Laci Edwards, who each had RBIs in the inning. Monroe got on the board in the second, after Angelica Uribe scored after a double play.

Gianna Postiglione earned the victory on the rubber for Suffolk. The pitcher went five innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out six.

Uribe was in the circle for the Express. The ace lasted five innings, allowing 12 hits and 17 runs while striking out two.

Caitlin Molina and Thiare Sanchez each collected one hit to lead Monroe.

Suffolk totaled 12 hits in the game as Thompson led the Sharks with four hits in four at bats.

Game two: Suffolk Sharks 18, Monroe Express 0

The Express were unable to gain any momentum in game two, losing 18-0 in five innings. Suffolk took the lead on an error in the first inning.

Suffolk opened up scoring in the first inning, when an error scored one run for the Sharks.

A bright spot for Monroe was a single by Dulce Duran in the first.

Katelyn Lysogorski got the win for the Sharks on the mound. The ace lasted five innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out eight and walking zero.

Emily Velez led things off in the circle for Monroe. The pitcher allowed 13 hits and 16 runs over three innings, striking out one. Angelica Uribe threw two innings in relief.

Uribe and Duran each managed one hit to lead the Express.

The Sharks tallied 14 hits in the game. Alyssa Jones and Vacchio both collected three hits for Suffolk.

The Express take to the road Sunday, April 23rd for a non-conference doubleheader against the Bucks County Community College Centurions in Newtown, PA. First pitch is slated for 12 PM.

The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
