Express Baseball Defeats #9 Kingsborough in Key Victory at Home

The Express take on Kingsborough in conference action on Friday, April 14th at home

BRONX, NY – Monroe Express baseball picked up a monumental victory Wednesday afternoon, taking down #9 ranked Kingsborough Community College Wave, 7-2, inside Roberto Clemente State Park. In the victory, the Express held Kingsborough to their lowest run total for the season. Monroe evens their record at 14-14, and move to 3-4 in Region 15 play.

The Express played up to their competition, taking the lead early and created separation, on their way to their victory.
With both teams going scoreless in the first two innings, Monroe broke the scoring ice in the bottom of the third after Ramsel Jerez scored on a wild pitch by Kingsborough reliever Francesco Bonvini. Bryant Quezada followed with a run of his own on a wild pitch one play later.

Leading 2-0 in the fourth, Jose Zabala Rodriguez slapped a home run to center field, adding another run to the Express' total. The Wave entered into the scoring column after Frank Cullen scored on a single to right field hit by Aldo Thomas. Two batters later, Robert Lay scored on a wild pitch, trimming the Monroe advantage to one. The Express would answer after Ian Faulkner hit a huge double to right field, running in two, opening a three run edge.

Monroe put the game away in the bottom of the seventh, after Randy Diaz scored on a single to left field hit by Camilo Rodriguez, and Imanol Ramos ran in one after a double to center field. The Wave were unable to generate any offense, leading to the 7-2 victory for the Express after nine.

Adrian Quezada took the victory for the Express on the mound. The ace pitched five innings and allowed two hits and two runs over nine innings, striking out seven and walking three. Tyler Cadena and Luis Lopez entered the game in relief out of the bullpen. Cadena threw three innings, allowing one hit while striking out one and Lopez threw for one inning, striking out two and walking one.

Bonvini took the loss for Kingsborough in the circle. Bonvini surrendered 10 hits and seven runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking three. Justin Rosado pitched one inning, relieving one.

The Express led the game in hits with 10, as Diaz and Farrell led with two apiece. Zabala Rodriguez claimed Monroe's lone home run of the game.

Kingsborough tallied three hits in the contest, with Cullen, Thomas and Bryan Lopez Duran registering one.

The Express host the Kingsborough Community College Wave for the second time in Region 15 action on Friday, April 14th inside Roberto Clemente State Park in Bronx, NY. First pitch is scheduled for 4 PM.
