Express Baseball Face Early Deficit At Westchester

The Express take on Dutchess Community College on the road Friday (Mar. 31)

VALHALLA, NY – Monroe Express baseball continued their action packed week Thursday afternoon, colliding with the Westchester Community College Vikings inside Vikings Field, where they fell behind and were unable to recover in a 10-2 setback across nine innings. With the loss, the Express fall to 10-11.

Early on, the Express got on the board in the first inning after Ernie Farrell grounded out into a double play, scoring one run. Westchester evened things up at one in the bottom of the second when an error scored one run for the Vikings, and also took the lead on the same play after Tommy Poggi scored after tagging up.

The Vikings pulled away for good with four runs in the third inning. The hot inning was fueled by Weston Baronian doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs, Ryan Osso singled on the first pitch of his at bat, scoring one run, and an error scored one run for Michael Manganiello. The Express were unable to gain any further momentum in the game, scoring once more on a Billy Beltre fly to second base to push Bryant Quezada across home plate.

Thomas Browne was the winning pitcher for the Vikings. The pitcher allowed five hits and two runs over eight innings, striking out eight. Alvy Grullon threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Alex Bello-Rodriguez took the loss for the Express, with the ace lasting four innings, allowing six hits and seven runs while striking out one and walking zero.

Beltre led Monroe with two hits in four at bats. In contrast for Westchester, the Vikings tallied eight hits on the day. Four Vikings collected two hits in the Westchester victory.

The Express continue their busy week with a visit to Region 15 foe Dutchess Community College Friday (Mar. 31). First pitch is slated for 3 PM.
