HAMPTON, VA – Monroe Express baseball finished their Virginia road trip Sunday afternoon, after dropping their doubleheader to the Virginia Peninsula Community College Gators, 6-12 (Game 1) and 1-14 (Game 2). The Express leave Hampton, VA with a 1-3 record on the season.

VPCC Gators 12, Monroe Express 6
- Jabez got the Express on the board in the top of the first, after reaching home plate, followed by an Imanol Ramos double to push two base runners in giving Monroe a 3-0 lead.
- VPCC ultimately eclipsed the Express after a four run period, followed by a second period score after a fielder's choice allowed Michael Adams to add one more.
- Trailing 4-7, Leniel Rivera slapped a ball to center field, running in Ian Faulkner. Following this play, King was able to add another run to the tally after scoring on a passed ball.
- This is the closest that the Express would get, as the Gators would score five more times, settling the final at 12-6Â in seven innings.
- Ramos went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Monroe in hits.
VPCC Gators 14, Monroe Express 1
- The Gators put the game out of reach early in the first inning, scoring eight runs off Express relievers Victor Vilomar and Jonathan Rondon.
- Randy Diaz got the Express on the board with a left field homer in the third frame, Monroe's lone score of the contest.
- VPCC increased their lead to 13 runs, after a fourth inning double by Morton placed three Gator runners into scoring position.Â
- Peyton Thomas closed out VPCC's one hitter in the fifth, with a final score of 14-1.
- Diaz led the Express with one hit in two at bats.
The Express hit the road Saturday (Feb. 28) for a non-conference doubleheader against the Montgomery College-Rockville Raptors in Rockville, MD at 11:30 PM.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
