ROCKVILLE, Md. – The nationally ranked No. 11 Monroe College – Bronx women's basketball team suffered a setback on Saturday, November 18, as the Express fell to NJCAA Division II Montgomery College – Rockville by a score of 84-35 at Montgomery College Gymnasium.

Daysiah Smith gave Monroe a 6-3 advantage, 3:20 into the contest. From that point on, the Raptors (4-2) took over the game. They finished the first quarter on a 24-4 run to take a commanding 27-10 hold after 10 minutes of play. The Express could not get back into it as Montgomery outscored the Blue and Gold in each of the remaining three quarters as well to earn the victory.
Leading the way for the Express was rookie guard
Tymere Moorer who had a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, while collecting a pair of steals. Smith generated 10 points, four assists, and a duo of boards.
Gunter added five points, four rebounds and a pair of assists, while freshman guard
Tiffany Newsome snatched eight caroms and notched five points as well. Sophomore forward
Kristina Poitier-Wells had five boards, while classmate
Kuari Green added four caroms of her own. Freshman guard
Leanna Morales scored a point, had a trio of rebounds, and forced a pair of steals.
Monroe – Bronx will conclude its Maryland trip on Sunday, November 19, with another game against an NJCAA Division II opponent. This time, it will be against Community College of Baltimore County – Catonsville. Tipoff at Jack Manley Wellness and Athletic Center is set for 1:00 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
