Express Women's and Men's Basketball Teams Set to Compete This Weekend

BRONX – The Monroe College – Bronx women's and men's basketball teams will compete this weekend. 
 
The nationally ranked No. 11 women's basketball program will have a pair of games against NJCAA Division II opponents in Maryland. On Saturday, November 18, the Express will take on Montgomery College – Rockville, at Montgomery College Gymnasium, at 2:00 p.m. They will be back in action the next day at Community College of Baltimore County - Catonsville, at the Jack Manley Wellness and Athletic Center, starting at 1:00 p.m.
 
The men's basketball team has one game this weekend and that will this Saturday against Union College, at Union College Gymnasium, beginning at 2:00 p.m.

The Express women's team is coming off a Region 15 victory over Borough of Manhattan Community College, 79-60, at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium this past Thursday, November 16. Leading the way for Monroe – Bronx in that contest was freshman guard Tymere Moorer who tallied a triple-double with 10 points, a game-high 12 steals, and 11 rebounds coming off the bench. She also blocked four shots. Rookie guard Daysiah Smith scored a game-high 32 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, forced six steals, and dished out three assists for the Express.
 
Montgomery – Rockville (3-2) has been led by sophomore guard Isabela Lujan-Gonzales who is generating 14.0 points, 7.0 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per contest.
 
For CCBC – Catonsville (4-2), sophomore guard Tenea Robinson is scoring 18.5 points per game. Second-year forward Jocelyn Fogle is netting 7.5 points and bringing down 10.5 rebounds per contest. 
 
This is Monroe's first ever game against Montgomery – Rockville. The Express played CCBC – Catonsville for the first time last year, with the Cardinals winning on their home court by a score of 77-66 back on January 22, 2023.
 
The Express men's team is looking to snap its two-game losing streak. Sophomore forward Abubakar Kromah is averaging 22.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game for Monroe.
 
For Union (2-2), sophomore guard Jordan Miller is generating 20.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per contest. 
 
This will be the first ever head-to-head matchup between the Express and the Owls.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
