BROOKLYN – The nationally ranked No. 10 Monroe College – Bronx women's volleyball team's winning ways continued Thursday evening, October 5, as the Express defeated Kingsborough Community College in four sets. Set scores were 25-19, 23-25, 25-13, and 25-14. The action took place at Kingsborough CC Gymnasium.
The Express (13-1, 8-0 Region 15) remain unbeaten in regional competition and have now won nine consecutive matches.
After Monroe took the opening game, the Wave (4-7, 3-6 Region 15) won a close second set. However, the Express responded by winning the third and fourth sets in convincing fashion to pick up the Region 15 victory.
Leading the way for Monroe – Bronx was sophomore outside hitter
Lisanel Rodriguez who tallied a double-double with 22 kills and 13 digs. Classmate
Luisanni Rodriguez had a double-double of her own with 17 assists and just as many digs, while adding a pair of service aces. Sophomore libero
Valery Nunez anchored the defense with 18 digs, while tallying seven assists and scoring four service aces.
Making her collegiate debut, freshman setter
Serena Bueno notched a double-double with 14 digs and 12 assists. Sophomore outside hitter
Selena Mitchell slammed home six kills and had a strong match defensively with 10 digs. Rookie middle blocker
Nisa Llanos executed seven successful attacks. Sophomore right side hitter
Lesly Almonte had a solid match with four putdowns, five digs, and a duo of aces.
Freshman defensive specialist
Yasmel Molina generated eight digs and three assists, while sophomore middle blocker
Xing Stewart-Greer produced four kills, two digs, and a block. Sophomore outside hitter
Haley Castaneda chipped in on defense with four digs and scored an ace on the offensive side.

Chelsea Nolasco scored three kills and added a pair of blocks, while sophomore middle blocker
Maria Melendez added a block of her own. Sophomore defensive specialist
Laura Pinales recorded two digs.
No. 10 Monroe – Bronx will have a pair of Region 15 matches on the campus of Borough of Manhattan Community College on Saturday, October 14. The Express will take on the host-Panthers at noon, and then battle Fashion Institute of Technology at approximately 2:00 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
