Express Roll Past Raritan Valley to Reach 15 Wins

The Express remain on the road Tuesday (Jan. 31) for a non-conference stint against #13 Passaic County Community College

NORTH BRANCH, NJ –  Monroe Express women's basketball was not shy Saturday evening, rolling past the Raritan Valley Community College Lions, 71-51, to win two straight to end their week. The Express improve to 15-7 on the season with the victory, and the Lions fall to 9-14.

When asked about the catalyst that led to the 20 point win, Coach Thompson shared:

"We came out today and played great defense wire to wire from rebounding the ball to great ball screen coverage and contesting shots."

Thompson also shared this when asked about his team's effort:

"This type of effort shows the true character of our team, their toughness and how prepared they were. Well enjoy this win, but be ready to go again Monday."

Janay Legagneur had a monster game, leading the Express with 16 points, five rebounds, two blocks, one assist and one steal. Ariella Johnson followed with 12 points, three steals, three rebounds and two assists. Aleah James, Taina Maldonado, Nyeira Spady all registered nine points. James added five assists, four rebounds, and two steals, Maldonado with six rebounds and two assists, and Spady with four steals, three assists, and three rebounds.

The Express get a short rest, and return to the road Tuesday (Jan. 31) to take on the #13 Passaic County Community College Panthers in Paterson, NJ at 5 PM.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
