BALTIMORE, MD – #8 Monroe Express women's basketball traveled to Baltimore, MD for a tough matchup against #1 ranked CCBC-Essex Knights, falling 45-97 in a non-conference battle. With the loss, the Express fall to 13-6, and the Knights improve to 19-1.
The Express got it going in the first after a
Maria Negron layup tied the game in the early moments. After an Anasia Staton 3-pointer gave the Knights the lead again, Negron followed with another interior bucket, before CCBC-Essex went on a nine point spurt to raise the lead to nine. Monroe went on a run of their own, cutting the deficit to four, before the Knights ended the quarter with another scoring run, raising the advantage to 13. This is the closest that the Express would get for the rest of the game, before the Knights settled the 45-97 final.
Janay Legagneur led the way for the Express, with 13 points and eight rebounds. Magan Jackson pitched in eight points, two assists and two rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench. Aleah James contributed seven points, six assists and three steals.
The Express finish their Maryland road trip Sunday (Jan. 22) as they take on CCBC-Catonsville in a non-conference stint inside Jack Manley Wellness and Athletic Center in Catonsville, MD at 4 PM.
