Monroe-Bronx Women’s Volleyball Raises Win Streak to Five with Victory Against Medgar Evers

The Express hit the road Saturday (Oct. 1) for a tri-match against Hostos Community College and Nassau Community College

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Coming off the built momentum from their previous contest, Monroe-Bronx women's volleyball faced off against the Medgar Evers College Cougars in non-conference play, producing a 3-0 (25-8, 25-19, 25-12) victory. With this win, the Express' current win streak rises to five games.

Early on, the Express took advantage of some Medgar miscues to jump out to an early 19-4 lead in the first period and create ample separation on the scoreboard, finishing the set with a 17 point margin. The Cougars put up a valiant effort in the second stanza, coming within two points, but failing to capture the lead. Key kills by Lesly Almonte and Lisanel Rodriguez in the third set ultimately put the game out of reach, settling the final at 3-0.

The production by Monroe-Bronx was an all-around effort, highlighted by Lisanel Rodriguez's 11 points, 11 kills on 13 attempts and Xing Stewart-Greer's 10 points, eight kills on 14 swings, one block, and one service ace. Lesly Almonte followed with seven points, six kills, three digs and one service ace. Valery Nunez registered a game high 21 digs and four service aces, while Luisanni Rodriguez added 20 assists, six digs and three service aces.

On the evening, the Express registered 48 points, 34 kills on 70 swings, 51 digs, 26 assists, 12 service aces and two blocks.

The Express travel to Garden City Saturday (Oct. 1) for a conference tri-match against Hostos Community College and Nassau Community College.
