GARDEN CITY, NY – Monroe-Bronx women's volleyball swept their final tri-match of the season with 3-0 victories against the Nassau Community College Lions (25-13, 25-20, 25-18) and the Hostos Community College Caimans (25-13, 25-19, 25-18). Today's win raises the Express' win streak to seven games.
Monroe 3, NCC 0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-18)
The Express began their tri-match taking the first game in three straight sets, setting the tone for their entire afternoon. This content is headlined by great performances by
Soumayatou Yaogo, Luisanni and
Lisanel Rodriguez who all registered nine kills.
Luisanni Rodriguez led all scorers with 13 points, nine kills on 10 swings with only two errors, 20 assists, six digs, three service aces and one block.
Lisanel Rodriguez followed with 12 points, nine kills on 19 tries, 13 digs, and three service aces.
Xing Stewart-Greer added three kills and two blocks, while
Valery Nunez had 20 digs.
Monroe concluded the game with 49 points, 34 kills on 71 swings, 53 digs, 22 assists, eight service aces and seven blocks.
Monroe 3, Hostos 0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-18)
To finalize their afternoon, the Express defeated the Caimans in three sets in their last tri-match of the 2022-23 season.
Lisanel Rodriguez led the Express with 18 points, 11 kills on 19 attempts, nine digs, six service aces, one block and only one error.
Lesly Almonte stepped up in the latter contest with eleven points, eight kills on 12 swings, four digs and three service aces.
In the end, the Express finished with 53 points, 32 kills on 66 total attempts, 48 digs, 24 assists, 19 service aces and two blocks.
The Express begin a brief home stand Tuesday (Oct. 4) for a non-conference game against The King's College inside Monroe Athletic Complex at 7:00 PM.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
