Late Game Execution Leads Monroe-Bronx Women’s Volleyball to Three Set Victory

The Express travel Saturday (Oct. 8) for a conference matchup against Borough of Manhattan Community College

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Monroe College-Bronx women's volleyball produced a three-set victory (25-22, 25-20, 25-17) against The King's College Lions Tuesday evening inside Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, NY.

Despite the final score, the Lions put up a valiant effort in each set, mounting late comebacks that could have swung a period in either direction. Early on, the Express got off to a quick 5 point lead featuring kills from Lisanel Rodriguez and Jaylinne West. After some separation, the Lions proceeded to score 13 of the next 15 points to knot the game at 22, with a key kill from Alex Kemsley to swing the momentum. The home team escaped the rut with a timely Lesly Almonte service ace to end the stanza.

The Express would go on to finish the game taking the next two sets in near dramatic fashion. Lisanel Rodriguez would lead all scorers with 18.5 points, 15 kills on 27 attempts, 15 digs, 2.5 blocks with only two errors. Luisanni Rodriguez followed with eight points, 15 assists, eight digs, six kills and two service aces. Soumayatou Yaogo added seven points and five kills while Almonte and West both had four kills. Valery Nunez pitched in 19 digs.

For the Lions, Bella Rush led her team with 15 points, 13 kills, 11 digs, two aces and one assist. Kemsley added 13 points, 10 kills, three aces, two digs and one assist.

Monroe led the contest with 56 points, 38 kills on 80 swings, 65 digs, 18 aces and 18 blocks. The King's College registered more assists (25).
