NEW YORK, NY – Monroe-Bronx women's volleyball continued their winning ways Saturday afternoon, sweeping their season's second tri-match against the Kingsborough Community College Wave (3-0, 25-22, 25-15, 25-16) and the Queensborough Community College Tigers (3-1, 25-19, 27-29, 25-19, 25-17). These victories continue the Express' undefeated road winning streak to 4-0.
Monroe 3, KCC 0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-16)
The Express started their tri-match with a three-set shutout against the Wave, totalling 31 kills, including 15 service aces, 31 digs, 17 assists and one block.
Lisanel Rodriguez contributed 12 points, 10 kills on 13 swings, which marked her fifth game with eight or more. She also added 16 digs, two assists and two service aces.
Lesly Almonte pitched in 11 points, eight kills and three service aces, while
Luisanni Rodriguez registered 14 assists, eight digs and two kills.
Soumayatou Yaogo added nine points, seven kills and one service ace with
Xing Stewart-Greer handing out five service aces.
For Kingsborough, Noarie Proverbs led the Wave with 13 points, 12 kills on 24 swings, two digs and one solo block. Luica Duran added 20 assists, three points, three kills and 10 digs.
Monroe 3, QCC 1 (25-19, 27-29, 25-19, 25-17)
Monroe continued their hot play against QCC where they relinquished their only set on the day.
Lisanel Rodriguez posted a blistering 22 points, 18 kills on 32 swings, 15 digs, four service aces and two assists to help lead the Express to victory.
Valery Nunez anchored the defense with a season high 24 digs and
Emely Diaz followed with 10.
Luisanni Rodriguez added 31 assists. Stewart-Greer contributed three solo blocks and one block assist.
Rosanna Bradica registered 11 points, seven kills and four solo blocks. Brianna Griffiths followed with nine points, five kills and four solo blocks.
The Express return home Tuesday (Sept. 20) for a Region XV hometown rivalry game against the Bronx Community College Broncos (0-6, 0-4 Region XV) at 7:00 PM inside the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, NY.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
