BELLEROSE, N.Y., April 26, 2022 – An offensive explosion led to a record-breaking afternoon for the Monroe College Express baseball team, as the Express set a new single-game program record in a 24-3 Region 15 victory over Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) in just five innings on Tuesday. The Express improve to 15-18 overall and 8-8 in region play with the win, while the Panthers drop to 0-17.

The Express broke a record on Tuesday that was set back in the team's inaugural season. They set the previous record when they defeated these same Panthers by a score of 17-12 on May 2, 2018.

The big day got off to a modest start for the Express, as they put two runs on the board in each of the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead on the Panthers. Things took a big turn for the Express in the third, when they tallied 13 runs to take a commanding 17-0 lead.
Malvin Gutierrez provided a three-run homer in the inning, while
Jose Arrieta also delivered a two-RBI double.

The Express went on to score in all five innings on Tuesday.
Salomon Lluveres' two-run homer in the fourth capped off a four-run frame, and
Franklin Caminaro knocked in two on a double in the fifth to lead Monroe three more runs in the final inning.

Tyler Cadena went three innings in the start on Tuesday, allowing three runs with four strikeouts.
Pablo Castillo went the final two, earning the win after striking out two batters without allowing a hit to improve to 1-0. Richard Suriel took the loss for BMCC to fall to 0-5.

Lluveres went 4-for-4 in the big win, knocking in four runs and scoring three times while hitting a two-run homer.
Anthony Gonzalez Jr. hit a triple and finished 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs.
Joseph Rosario batted 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBIs and two doubles.
Juan Jorge finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored. Gutierrez scored twice and knocked in three after hitting a three-run homer in a 1-for-2 outing. Arrieta plated three runs and scored once after going 2-for-3 with a double.
Ernie Farrell batted 2-for-4 with two runs, an RBI and a double. Caminaro came on late and went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and two runs.
Jabez King got a hit in his only at-bat.

The Express are back at it again tomorrow, April 27, with another crucial Region 15 matchup, this time on the road at Suffolk County Community College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
