SYRACUSE, NY – Monroe-Bronx women's basketball concluded the Onondaga Kickoff Tournament after a 96-76 defeat to the Rowan College of Gloucester County Roadrunners in Syracuse, NY. With the loss, the Express move to 0-2 in the early season.
When asked about his team's effort during this weekend's tournament, head coach
Jeremy Thompson shared, "We wanted to face good nationally ranked teams this weekend. We wanted a challenge to kick off the season! Wouldn't trade the experience for anything, we know how talented we are and what a great team we can be. Credit to RCSJ, CCRI and Onondaga. These are three excellent teams with great coaches! But We'll be back at it Thursday and ready to go for QCC."
Aleah James led the Express in scoring with 17 points, including perfect trips to the free throw line (4/4), narrowly followed by
Ariella Johnson with 16 points.
The Express travel to Bayside, NY Thursday (Nov. 10) for a Region 15 contest against the Queensborough Community College Tigers at 5 PM.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
