VALHALLA, NY – Monroe Express women's basketball bounced back from a hard fought battle in their previous matchup with a 71-54 victory against the Westchester Community College Vikings Tuesday evening inside Viking Gymnasium in Valhalla, NY. The win raised the Express' record to 3-3, and the Vikings fall to 2-4. The Express begin a stretch of Region 15 competition going into the second week of December.
It was an even scoring game for Monroe, with five Express players scoring in double-digit figures. Nyiera Spady led her squad with 16 points, closely followed by
Janay Legagneur with 15.
Sierra Jones added 12 points, while
Aleah James and
Magan Jacksonn both scored 11.
After the victory, Coach Thompson had this to say about his team's bounceback victory:
"This was one of those nights where we had to find different ways to win but this team is talented and they know now to adjust and compete. Overall, I am super proud of this group! 3-3 going into Thanksgiving break with a schedule as challenging as ours is good! We'll come back even hungrier."
The Express enter the Thanksgiving break and return home for the first game of an Express doubleheader Tuesday (Nov. 29) to take on the Suffolk County Community College Sharks inside the Monroe Athletic Complex at 6 PM.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
