NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Monroe Express junior varsity women's basketball took to New Rochelle, NY to take on their northern campus foe in the Monroe Mustangs JV women's basketball team that produced a 108-37 victory inside the Monroe Athletic Complex. With the victory, the Express move to 3-0 on the season, and the Mustangs open up their season at 0-1.
The Mustangs opened up the beginning period, striking first from Jalissa Fatorma and Jenny Washington scores moved the lead to 4-0 in favor of the home team. The Express would proceed to go on a 33-4 run to end the quarter, capped off by a Kassandra Marks layup to beat the buzzer. Monroe-Bronx would capitalize on Monroe's miscues, including a Kuari Green takeaway that led to a Deeosmary Espinal fastbreak score.
The Express kept their foot on the gas for the remainder of the game, scoring 53 in the second-half, which ultimately led to the final. Kuari Green registered a game high 24 points, six assists, six steals and three rebounds. Christina Reilly followed with a season high 21 points, along with seven rebounds, six steals, three blocks, and one assist. All Express players had at least three steals in the contest.
The Express take on SUNY Sullivan JV in a Region 15 contest on Tuesday (Nov. 16) in Loch Sheldrake, NY at 5 PM.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
