Monroe Express JV Women's Basketball Squanders Fourth Quarter Lead, Falls On The Road To Westchester Community College

Valhalla, NY, January 27, 2021 – After a back and forth affair in the first half the Monroe Express women's basketball team it looked like the Monroe Express JV women's basketball team would pull away after building the lead to 15 points, their largest of the night. The Express were unable to put the game away as Westchester Community College put together a ferocious rally in the fourth quarter to rally to a 66-64 comeback victory on Thursday evening at Viking Gymnasium. The Express fall to 3-6 with the loss while the Vikings improve to 7-4 with the win.
 
Freshman Magan Jackson (Bronx, New York) carried the offensive torch for the Express on the evening registering a double-double with a game-high 26 points and 16 rebounds while classmate Kassandra Marks (Harlem, New York) chipped in with 15 points of her own. Jackson also posted team-bests in assists and steals with three apiece while Christina Reilly (Bronx, New York) turned away a team-high three shots.
 
Monroe-Bronx outrebounded Westchester Community College 63-54, with the 63 rebounds being a season-high and outshot the Vikings 35.9% from the field (28-for-78) to 28.9% shooting from the field (26-for-90). The Express also outscored the Vikings in the paint 38-18.
 
In a game that featured 13 lead changes and four ties, the first and second quarters were tightly contested, with the deficit not exceeding three points. Westchester Community College got out to a 10-6 lead at 2:59, then Monroe-Bronx scored the following five points to tie it up on a Kellise Hill (Bronx, New York) jumper at 2:17 before a Donjeta Prelvukaj three-pointer gave the Vikings back the lead 14-11 at 1:39, which they held on to after one.
 
In the second quarter, Jackson helped the Express regain the lead by one, 17-16 at 6:57 on a layup, and both teams would exchange the lead five times and tie it up twice with the final tie knotting it up on a Marks layup at 1:33 to even it up at 27 going into halftime.
 
The Express exploded out of the gate in the third quarter using a 19-4 run to stretch their lead to 15, 46-31 on an Edenisse Jimenez (Manhattan, New York) three-pointer at 4:25 before the Vikings returned the favor with a 15-1 run to cut that deficit to one, 47-46 with 24 seconds left on an Adrianna McFadden three-pointer going into the final stanza.
 
Adrianna McFadden gave Westchester Community College back the lead by one, 52-51 at 7:11 on a layup, and they never relinquished it building it up to seven, 63-56 at 3:27 on a Kylee Taxiera layin and holding off a late charge to grind out a 66-64 win.
 
Two players finished in double-figures for Westchester Community College on the evening, led by Donjeta Prelvukaj, who posted a double-double scoring a team-high 23 points and grabbing 10 boards. Kylee Taxiera dropped 22 points, while Mikaelyn Hannon brought down a team-best 13 rebounds. Adriana McFadden also dished out a game-best eight assists and led the Vikings defensively with four steals.
