Monroe Express Men’s Soccer Records Third Straight Shutout, 5-0, At Home Over Westchester Community College

BRONX, N.Y., September 29, 2021 - The Monroe Express men's soccer team made it three wins in a row with yet another shutout during a 5-0 victory against Region 15 opponent Westchester Community College on Wednesday afternoon. The Express' record improved to win improves the Express to 6-1 (5-0 Region XV) while the Vikings fall to 2-3 (2-3 Region XV).

The Express came out firing from the opening kickoff, and sophomore James Gerbier (Rosedale, N.Y.) struck first in the 8th minute from Abubakar Alotey (Ghana) on a feed in the box for his team-leading seventh goal of the season to make it 1-0. Sophomore Jean Woobens Zamy (Port Au Prince, Haiti) doubled the lead before halftime finishing off a long entry pass from Andres Lora (Buenos Aires, Argentina) in the 37th minute. The Express dominated the shot total in the first half 13-3.

After a quiet second half between both squads, the Express poured in three more, beginning in the 82nd minute when Ulises Gomez (Cali, Colombia) stole the ball and drilled one into the low left pocket off a beautiful one-on-one move to make it 3-0. Freshman Amos Sawadogo rounded out the scoring with a pair of transition goals in the 83rd and 86th minute to put an exclamation point on the 5-0 win. Sabitu Issah (Accra, Ghana) and Larry Alvarado (Harlem, N.Y.) had the helpers on both tallies.

Jose Hernandez (Guatemala) picked up the win and his second clean sheet of the season, making four stops on the afternoon while Brian Guaman had 11 saves in the loss.

The Express will look to carry this momentum on the road for their next matchup against Regional foe Dutchess on Monday, October 4 at 4 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, NY. For more information on the matchup, click the Monroe Express Men's Soccer Schedule
