Box Score BRONX, N.Y., May 16, 2021 – The Monroe College Express baseball team dropped a 20-2 decision to ASA Brooklyn Sunday afternoon at Roberto Clemente State Park. Game 2 was then canceled due to lightning. The Express finish the regular season at 7-18 overall.

Game 1: ASA 20, Monroe 2 (5 INN)
With two outs in the top of the first, Eusebio Dilone homered to left-center to give the Avengers an early 1-0 lead. Edwin Guerrero made it back-to-back with a solo homer down the left-field line to give the visitors a 2-0 edge.

The long ball came through again for the Avengers in the second. Jose Lojo led off with a solo homer to center to make it a 3-0 game. With two on later in the frame, Ivan Santos hit a three-run homer to right-center, pushing the lead to 6-0.

The Express began to chip away in the home half of the second.
Anthony Burgos led off with a single, and then stole second.
Joseph Rosario brought him in on a single up the middle to get the Express on the board. After he stole second,
Malvin Gutierrez reached on an error that brought in Rosario from second to leave the Express down by four at 6-2.

With one out in the top of the third and Lojo on first, Yefri Oleo dropped a double down the left-field line, bringing in Lojo to push ASA's lead to 7-2. Later in the inning, ASA had runners on the corners with two outs when Santos dropped a bunt down the third-base line and beat it out for an RBI single, pushing the lead to 8-2. The Avengers later loaded the bases, and a walk by Guerrero brought in one more run to make it a 9-2 ballgame.

The Avengers then broke the game open with 11 runs in the fourth, eventually leading to a 20-2 final after five innings.

Chris Dominguez shouldered the loss for Monroe to fall to 3-2 on the season.

Rosario hit 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored in the game. Burgos batted 1-for-2 with a run scored.

The Express are now set for the Region 15 Championship tournament, which was rescheduled to begin Thursday, May 20, at Nassau Community College. A best-of-three semifinal series begins with a doubleheader on Thursday at 12 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 36 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports program, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 17 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
