Monroe Express Women's JV Basketball Suffers Road Loss To Westchester Community College Thursday Evening

New Rochelle, N.Y., December 9, 2021 - On Thursday evening, the Monroe Express JV women's basketball team's strong second-half rally fell short on the road against Westchester Community College, 70-57, at Viking Gymnasium in Valhalla, New York. The defeat drops the Express's record to 3-4, while the Vikings improve to 4-4 with the win.

Freshman Magan Jackson (Bronx, New York) posted her team-leading fourth double-double, recording a team-high 20 points and a game-high tied 10 rebounds, while Kryshana Levy (Bronx, N.Y.) posted her second straight double-figure game with 13 points. Jackson swatted a game-best two shots, and Doretha Brooks (Bronx, New York) also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds while all three dished out three assists, tying a team-best. Aiyana Carter (Brooklyn, New York) also snatched a team-high four steals in the contest.

After trading the first 16 points, Westchester Community College stretched their lead to 15-10 with 51 seconds left on a Donjeta Prelukaj jumper before a Jackson layup 12 seconds later to cut the deficit to 15-12 after one. The Vikings dominated the second quarter outscoring the Express 16-3 to go into halftime up 31-15.

Monroe-Bronx put forth a strong rally in the third quarter, trimming the Viking lead down to six, 34-28 on a Levy jumper at 7:22. However, that was the closest they would get as Westchester extended their advantage back to double digits on a Kylee Taxiera three-pointer at 6:39 to make it 38-28 and kept it there the rest of the way en route to a 70-57 victory.

For Westchester Community College, four players finished the evening in double figures. Adriana McFadden dropped a game-high 28 points and grabbed a game-best tied 10 rebounds for a double-double. Donjeta Prelvukaj drained 17 points while registering game-highs in steals with nine and assists with five. Kylee Taxiera and Mylene Smith contributed 14 points and 10 points in the contest.

The Express will get back to it next Wednesday, December 15, against Orange County Community College in Middletown, New York, at 6 p.m. For more information, visit the Monroe Express JV Women's Basketball Page.
