BRONX, N.Y., - December 20, 2021 – After the exciting addition of varsity men's volleyball back in June, Monroe Express Athletic Director
Leonard Pitt and Assistant Director of Athletics
Connor Moriarty announced
Edwin A. Medrano as the first-ever men's volleyball head coach.

Pitt. "Edwin's experience and passion for developing young men on and off the court, are a major asset to the Express program. His core values are a perfect fit with the culture we are creating within our department."

Coach Medrano's wealth of volleyball coaching and playing experience at many levels will undoubtedly be a major contribution to the success of our men's volleyball program."
Medrano brings a wealth of coaching experience in 15 years of patrolling the sidelines. As the women's head coach for Rockland Community College from 2003-06, Medrano won two conference championships in three years, leading the women's volleyball program to their best record in school history.

Before he coached at Rockland Community College, he took over the Allegro's 16-year-old national team for the final two months and led them to a #1 ranking in their national season. He also led the 15-year-old national team to a #1 ranking on GEVA during the 2007 season.
Originally from the Bronx, he has competed in and won countless local and regional beach and grass games at A.A. and B.B. levels representing the Borough in city-wide beach tournaments in 2001, 2002, and 2003. He also was a member of the Honduran Junior National Team for soccer and basketball.
He earned his associate degree from Bronx Community College and Rockland Community College with a major in Medical administration in 1989-91 and 1999-2001.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 36 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports program, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 17 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
