Women's Volleyball Collects 56 Service Aces To Capture First Two Victories Of The Season At Regional Double Dual On Saturday Afternoon

Garden City, NY, October 2, 2021 - The Monroe Express women's volleyball team put on a clinic from the service line combining for 56 service aces against Bronx C.C. and Hostos C.C. during a Regional Double Dual Saturday afternoon at Nassau C.C. to pick up their first two victories of the season. The wins improve the Express record to 2-5 (2-4 Region XV) on the year.

Monroe-Bronx recorded 33 services aces in the first match, the second-most in a single game since September 18, 2019, against Bunker Hill Community College (41). The Express hit an impressive .436 (28k-11e-39a), a season-high in the 25-4,25-13,25-9 three-set win over the Broncos. 

Adaiah Felix (Bronx, New York) led the way with a team-high 12 kills and hit a career-best .716, while classmates Arielys Colon (Bronx, New York) smashed a career-high seven kills and .556 hitting clip, and Yorlennis Nunez (Bronx, N.Y.) hit a career-best .667 to go along with five kills. Emely Diaz (Bronx, New York) posted her first double-double of the season, placing a match and career-high 12 service aces and a team-high 10 digs. Colon also fired eight service aces, and Jeribeth Hodge (Bronx, N.Y.) dished out 25 assists while also contributing six aces. Felix also registered five service aces while Esmeralda Villagomez (Bronx, N.Y.) and Nunez had one apiece. 

The Express kept their foot on the gas offensively in the second match, hitting at a .333 clip (26k-13e-39a) and uncorking 23 service aces in the contest. Adaiah Felix (Bronx, New York) put up her second straight double-digit kill performance leading the Monroe-Bronx with a team-high 10 kills. 

Classmates Yorlennis Nunez (Bronx, N.Y.) and Sheiraliz Bonifacio (Bronx, New York) both posted career-highs in kills with six and four, respectively. Arielys Colon (Bronx, New York) also placed a career and match-high in service aces with 11, while Jeribeth Hodge (Bronx, N.Y.) distributed a team-best 22 assists, and Emely Diaz (Bronx, New York) led the defense with seven digs.

For Hostos Community College, Savannah Williams led the attack with a match-high 12 kills while Evelina Nova dished out eight assists and put up a team-best three service aces put up a team-best. Marisabel Pujols and Williams led the defense with four digs apiece.

  • Adaiah Felix (Bronx, New York) has buried 35 kills over her last three games and leads the Express with 53 kills for the season.
  • Jeribeth Hodge (Bronx, N.Y.) has registered four straight double-digit assist games for the first time since 2019 and has recorded 20 or more assists in her last three contests. Hodge recorded 20 or more assists six times in 2019. She has 77 assists over her last four games.
  • Emely Diaz (Bronx, New York) is the third Express women's volleyball player to post a double double this season.
  • Arielys Colon (Bronx, New York) has served up 26 service aces over the last four matches and has recorded two or more in four of five contests this season and one in each.
  • Yorlennis Nunez (Bronx, N.Y.) has struck five or more kills in three straight matches.


ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 36 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports program, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
