FALL RIVER, Mass., September 4, 2019 – In its first contest of the 2019 season, the Monroe College Express women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision at Bristol Community College Wednesday afternoon. The Express start the season at 1-0, while the Bayhawks open up at 1-0.
The Bayhawks took an early lead in Wednesday's contest, their home opener, and did not relinquish it the rest of the way. Bristol carried a 3-0 lead into the halftime break with a goal by Mackenzie Kennedy and two from Alyssa Tortora. The Bayhawks added one more goal off the foot of Kennedy in the second half to pick up the 4-0 win on their home turf.
Julia Hermoso got the start in net for the Express, making three saves but yielding three goals to take the loss.
Myrna Gregorie came on in relief and stopped four shots. Mariquinha Alves picked up the win for Bristol.
The Express will look to bounce back on Saturday, Sept. 7, when they visit Raritan Valley Community College in North Branch, N.J. The game is set to kick off at 12 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 12 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
