SUFFERN N.Y., September 26, 2019Â - The Monroe Express Women's Volleyball team moved to 7-1 on the season with a 3-1 (25-17, 16-25, 25-17, 25-20) win over Rockland Community College in Region XV play.
Sophomore Dennyfer Hernandez led the Express with a career-high 18 kills, along with six digs and six assists. Freshman Irianna Castillo turned in 14 kills behind a .400 hitting percentage in addition to five digs and three aces. Sophomore Julie Trowers posted 10 kills and a match-high five blocks.
Sophomore Smeritte Colon added a double-double of 16 digs and 10 assists while freshman Jeribeth Hodge recorded 30 assists. Sophomore Reyna Cano had six kills, freshman Luz Frias ended with three of blocks, while sophomore Rachel Arias ended the night with three aces.
The Express return on Saturday, Sept. 28 when they host Bunker Hill Community College in a pair of non-conference at Roberto Clemente State Park beginning at noon.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 30 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 11 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
