POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y., April 6, 2019 – The Monroe Express softball team dropped a pair of contests in a doubleheader against the Dutchess Community College Falcons on Saturday. The Express fell, 10-7, in a hard-fought game one, before Dutchess took game two, 12-2, a run-rule shortened five innings. Following the twin bill, the Express sit at 0-8 (0-4 Region XV) on the year, while the Falcons move to 6-4 (6-0 Region XV).

GAME 1: DUCTCHESS 10, MONROE 7
While Yesennia Baez left the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, the Falcons came back to strike first in the bottom of the second. Lydia Uhl doubled to lead off the frame, advanced to third and scored on a wild pitch to give Dutchess a 1-0 lead. Cassidy Watt walked, and Jessica Osterhoudt drew a hit-by-pitch, before Cassandra Kielb's single brought another run home.

A throwing error brought home another run in Osterhoudt, before Addisen Brandemarte made it a 4-0 lead with an RBI groundout, scoring Kielb. Madchen Knauss added another run, scoring Casey O'Brien on a sacrifice fly to right, and the Falcons led, 5-0, after two innings of play.

But the Express responded to tie things up in the top of the third. Jasmeilyn Garcia led off the inning with a walk, advancing to second on Stephanie Avalo's sacrifice bunt. Yejeiri Frias laid down a bunt single, scoring Garcia from third, before Zahra brought in Frias with a triple, her second hit of the game, cutting the Falcons' lead to 5-2.

Jesiuska Cabral reached on an error, scoring Medina to cut the lead to 5-3, before Baez capped off the inning with a two-run homer to left, tying the game at five.

Dutchess retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Two walks and a single loaded the bases for Knauss, who reached on an error, scoring two to give the Falcons a 7-5 lead.

The Falcons added another run in the bottom of the fifth on Osterhoud's RBI triple, before the Express cut the deficit to one in the top of the sixth.

Kimberly Reyes drew a hit-by-pitch to lead off the inning, moved on second on Almarante's sacrifice but, and took third on Alonzo's single. Avalo's RBI single scored Reyes to cut Dutchess' lead to 8-6, before Frias cut the deficit to one with another RBI single.

But the Falcons added two insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh on Danielle Macario's RBI double and Elizabeth McCarthy's RBI single to take a 10-7 lead. And the Express went in order in the top of the seventh to give Dutchess the 10-7 victory.

GAME 2: DUTCHESS 12, MONROE 2 (5)

Dutchess added another run on McCarthy's sacrifice fly, but Baez got Osterhoud to ground into a fielder's choice to leave the bases loaded and keep the Falcons' lead at just three.

However, Dutchess came right back to double their lead in the bottom of the third. Knauss' double knocked in two, before the Falcons brought home another run on Uhl's RBI single, extending their lead to 6-0.
