GARDEN CITY, N.Y., April 17, 2019 – The Monroe Express baseball team fell to the Nassau Community College Lions, 10-0, in a run-rule shortened six innings on Thursday.
 
Nassau took the lead against the Express in the bottom of the first. Chris Morro drew a leadoff walk and stole second. John Capozzoli moved Morro to third with a sacrifice bunt, and the Lions took the lead on Michael Iacobellis' RBI single. TJ Toscano walked to put two on with two outs for Tucker Hahn, who reached on a dropped fly ball, scoring two to extend the lead to 3-0.
 
The Lions added another run on Anthony Citarelli's RBI single, taking a 4-0 lead after one.
 
Nassau tacked on three more in the bottom of the second to extend their lead to 7-0, as Toscano and Hahn combined for three RBI in the frame.
 
After a scoreless frame, the Lions added one more in the bottom of the fourth, extending their lead to 8-0 on Brandon Buchan's RBI single, before scoring two more in the bottom of the sixth to finish off the run-rule victory.
 
Andy Rodriguez (0-4) took the loss for the Express, while Joe Wolf (2-1) earned the win for the Lions. With the loss, Monroe falls to 3-18 (1-9 Region XV), while Nassau moves to 8-12 (6-6 Region XV).
 
Devon Marrero led the Express at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a double.
 
The Express will next travel to Allamuchy, N.J. to take on Sussex County Community College on Thursday, April 18. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 30 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 11 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
