Howard, MD, December 7, 2019 – On Saturday, the Monroe Express women's basketball team fell in a non-conference road contest against Howard Community College, 82-55.
Following the loss, the Express stands at 5-5 on the season.
Freshman
Quanisha Griffin finished the evening matching her career-high of 28 points, along with a season-high eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Classmate
Barbara Valentin finished in double-figures for the fourth time this season, scoring 13 points and tallied eight rebounds, five steals, three assists, and a block.
Freshman
Desteny Arzu matched her career-high of 11 rebounds while
Ashley Molina had five points and six rebounds. Freshman Rovell Cayenne grabbed a season-high six boards.
Howard had five players record 10 or more points led by Brianna Jones's double-double performance of 17 points and 17 rebounds.
The Express women's basketball program heads back to action on Thursday, Dec. 12 with a conference matchup at Suffolk County Community College.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 30 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 11 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
