New Rochelle, N.Y., November 7, 2019 – In the second meeting between the two programs, the Monroe Express men's basketball team fell to the Monroe Mustangs in an intra-campus matchup on Thursday night, 99-71. The loss drops the Express to 1-1 on the season.
Freshman
Kevon Wiggins scored a game-high 21 points off the bench, knocking down three-of-six from long range. Rookie
Adonis Robinson netted 12 points and and two rebounds in his Express debut. Freshman
Isiah Ryan poured in eight points and grabbed nine rebounds while classmate
Kobe Daniels posted nine points and a pair of steals.
Sophomore
Kevin Benjamin and freshman
Derek Smith scored six points apiece while Smith added five rebounds and Benjamin collected three. Sophomore
Eric Goodman chipped in three points and five rebounds.
The Mustangs opened the game on a 17-7 scoring run, forcing six turnovers in the first seven minutes of the half. The Express answered back, outscoring the Mustangs 14-6 to cut the Mustangs lead to two (23-21) with 11:12 left in the half. The Mustangs closed out half with a 50-39 lead, fueled by a 54.5 shooting percentage from the floor.
In the second half, the Mustangs pushed their lead to 17 (69-52) with 12:59 left in regulations. The Mustangs closed out the game with a 28 point lead, securing a 99-71 victory
The Mustangs were led by a pair of double-double performances from Juan Felix Rodriguez (16 points and 12 rebounds) and Marcus Thompson (10 points and 10 rebounds).

The Express are back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at home against Bronx Community College in their Region XV opener. Game time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, N.Y.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 30 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has 11 varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
