Monroe Express Women’s Volleyball Drops Hard-Fought Match at Passaic County

PATERSON, N.J., September 8, 2018 – Monroe College Express women's volleyball fell to Passaic County Community College, 3-1, on Saturday, dropping to 0-3 (0-2 Region XV) on the season.
 
After the Panthers took the first set, 25-17, the Express battled back but fell just short in the second set, with Passaic County taking the set, 27-25. Monroe took set three, 25-23, before the Panthers pulled away with a 25-22 four-set victory to pick up a 3-1 victory.
 
In a back-and-forth match, three of the four sets between the Express and Panthers were decided by just 10 total points, and none of the four sets was decided by more than eight points.
 
Julie Trowers led the Express with a season-high 10 kills, while Dawn Franklin turned in an all-around performance with six kills, five aces and eight blocks. Rachel Arias also led the Express in assists for the third-straight match, totaling a season-high 14 against Passaic County.
 
After a week off, the Express return home to Roberto Clemente State Park in The Bronx on Monday, Sept. 17 to take on Dutchess Community College at 7 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
