BRONX, N.Y., September 17, 2018 – Monroe College Express women's volleyball fell to Dutchess Community College in straight-sets on Monday at Roberto Clemente State Park, dropping to 0-4 (0-3 Region XV) on the season.
Though the Express took an early first set lead on three-straight services aces by
Rachel Arias, the Falcons came back on the serve of Zarissa Wheeler, pulling ahead and taking set one by the score of 25-12.
Riess Lovett started Dutchess out with a 6-0 run to open the second set, and though the Express were able to cut the deficit to three, Dutchess again pulled ahead and took set two, 25-15.
And once again, the Falcons took the lead in set three and never looked back, picking up a three-set match victory with a 25-12 set three win.
Arias led the Express with eight assists and four aces, while
Jayleen Orta added five digs and one assists.
Julie Trowers once again led the Express in kills with four, while
Dennyfer Hernandez, in her first match, totaled two kills and an assist.
The Express continue their homestand on Tuesday, Sept. 18 when they take on Westchester Community College at 7 p.m. at Roberto Clemente State Park.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
