Monroe Express Women’s Volleyball Drops Hard-Fought Match to Westchester

BRONX, N.Y., September 18, 2018 – Monroe College Express women's volleyball fell to Westchester Community College, 3-1, on Tuesday at Roberto Clemente State Park, falling to 0-5 (0-4 Region XV) on the season.
 
Though the Express took the first set, 25-21, Westchester quickly came back to take the next three sets to take home a 3-1 match victory. The Vikings took the second set, 25-8, and edged out the Express, 25-17 and 25-22 in sets three and four.
 
Dennyfer Hernandez led the Express with four kills, while Julie Trowers added a season-high seven aces. Defensively for the Express, Dawn Franklin totaled four blocks, while Jessica Gonzalez led the way with four digs. Rachel Arias once again led with a team-high seven assists as well.
 
The Express are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 22 when they travel to Selden, N.Y. to take on Nassau Community College and Suffolk County Community College in a double-dual beginning at 12 p.m. at Brookhaven Gymnasium.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
