GARDEN CITY , N.Y., September 22, 2018 – Monroe Express women's volleyball fell in a pair of matches at a Region XV Double-Dual hosted by Nassau Community College, falling to the Lions and Suffolk County Community College in straight-sets to drop to 0-7 (0-6 Region XV) on the season.
MATCH 1: Nassau 3, Monroe 0
The Express fell to the Nassau Lions in straight-sets, dropping the first set, 25-8, and the second set, 25-5, before falling 25-10 in the third and final set.
Julie Trowers led the way for the Express with three kills, while
Rachel Arias added an ace and six assists.
Dennyfer Hernandez totaled a team-high seven digs, while
Dawn Franklin led the team in blocks with two.
MATCH 2: Suffolk 3, Monroe 0
Suffolk County edged the Express, 25-12, in the first set, before taking the second set by the score on 25-9. And while Monroe battled in set three, Suffolk won the third set, 25-13, to sweep the match.
Trowers again led the Express with three kills, adding a block, while
Jennifer Abreu Hernandez tallied six digs and two aces.
Smeritte Colon led the Express with her seven digs, while
Kelsie Watkins led the way with three aces.
The Express are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 25 when they return to Roberto Clemente State Park to take on Sullivan County Community College at 7 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
