PURCHASE, N.Y., September 29, 2018 – Monroe Express women's soccer fell to Suffolk County Community College, 7-0, on Saturday at SUNY Purchase, dropping to 0-3 (0-2 Region XV) on the season.
After a slow start for both sides, the Express and Sharks traded shots before Ericka Escobar gave Suffolk County a 1-0 lead, knocking in her third goal of the season on a ricochet off a cross.
The Sharks added three more goals in the first half to take a 4-0 into the break, and added three more in the second half, picking up a 7-0 victory.
Mayra Zurita and
Leslly Marmolejo led the Express with two shots apiece, while
Julia Hermoso made 13 saves in goal for Monroe.
The Express are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 2 when they take on the Borough of Manhattan Community College at 12 p.m. in New York, N.Y.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
