POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y., September 26, 2018 – Monroe Express women's soccer fell, 7-1, to Dutchess Community College on Tuesday evening, dropping to 0-2 (0-1 Region XV) on the season.
Kristy Garcia got the Falcons on the scoreboard with an early penalty goal, but
Ilda Limon quickly knotted things up at one goal apiece with her shot from outside the box in the 18th minute.
However, Ifena Ciferri gave Dutchess the lead right back in the 27th minute and the Falcons pulled away, adding three more goals to their tally in the first half, and another two in the second half, to pick up a 7-1 victory over the Express.
Limon led the way for the Express, tallying two shots on goal, while
Julia Hermoso made 10 saves in goal.
The Express are back in action when they return home on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m., taking on another Region XV-foe in Suffolk County Community College at SUNY Purchase.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
