PURCHASE, N.Y., September 15, 2018 – Monroe Express women's soccer fell to the Montgomery College-Rockville Raptors, 17-0, in their home opener on Saturday at SUNY Purchase, dropping to 0-1 on the season.
The Raptors scored just two minutes into the first half, and never looked back, tallying 17 goals on 43 shots.
Leslly Marmolejo led the Express with a shot on goal, while Mayra Zurita tallied two shots to lead all Express players. In goal for Monroe,
Julia Hermoso recorded 10 saves.
The Express are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 18 when they travel to Selden, N.Y. to take on Suffolk County Community College at 4 p.m. in their first Region XV matchup of the season.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
