Monroe Express Baseball Drops Road-Tilt against Kingsborough

BROOKLYN, N.Y., April 23, 2018 – The Monroe Express Baseball team fell to Kingsborough Community College on Monday, 14-4, dropping to 0-23 (0-20) on the season.

An eight-run bottom of the first inning proved to be too much for the Express to overcome, as though the Mustangs responded with four runs, Kingsborough pulled away to pick up a run-rule shortened five inning victory.

After the Wave tallied eight runs, just two of which were earned runs, in the bottom of the first, Monroe came back to score three in the top of the second.

A hit-by-pitch, walk and single loaded the bases before Jose Santiago's one-out single scored two to cut the deficit to six. Alvin Vasquez's groundout scored another, and the Express trailed, 8-3, heading to the bottom of the second.

Kingsborough got a run in the bottom of the frame, but the Express came right back to score another in the top of the third on Raymond Pichardo's RBI double, scoring Devon Marrero from third to cut the Wave's lead to 9-4.

But after a scoreless fourth, the Wave scored five in the bottom of the fifth to finish off a five-inning, run-rule victory.

Jeffrey Cristo (0-3) took the loss for Monroe, while Tom Scarpacci (2-0) picked up the win for Kingsborough. Santiago led the Express at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, while Harold Valdez and Pichardo each hit a double.

The Express resume play on Tuesday, April 24 when they take on the Borough of Manhattan Community College Panthers at 3:30 p.m. in New York, N.Y
