Monroe Express Baseball Downed by Nassau Community College

GARDEN CITY, N.Y., April 10, 2018 – An early five-run deficit was too much for the Monroe Express baseball team to overcome as they fell, 10-0, in a run-rule shortened five innings to Nassau Community College on Tuesday at Molloy Field.

The Lions tagged Express starter Jacob Roman for five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 5-0 lead.

Gorge Garcia led off the second with a single, picking up the first hit for Monroe, but he was left stranded at first, and the Express headed to the third still down five.

Nassau extended their lead with runs in the bottom of the third and fourth, before Marino Sorbara's three-run double cleared the bases and gave the Lions a 10-0, five-inning, run-rule victory.

Roman (0-1) took the loss for the Express, who fall to 0-14 (0-11), while Anthony Pristera (1-2) earned the win for Nassau.

Garcia, Julian Ovalles-Garcia, Emanuel Veras and Alvin Vasquez each tallied hits for the Express, while Vasquez also added a stolen base, his second of the year.

The Express are back in action on Thursday, April 12 when they resume their suspended game against Bronx Community College at 4 p.m. at Roberto Clemente State Park.
