Monroe Express Baseball Drops Road-Tilt at Kingsborough

BROOKLYN, N.Y., March 27, 2018Harold Valdez led off with an inside-the-park home run, but the Monroe Express fell to Kingsborough Community College, 10-2, in a run-rule shortened seven innings on Tuesday in Brooklyn, N.Y.
 
Valdez led off the top of the first with an inside-the-park home run to give the Express a 1-0 lead, but the Wave answered with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at one.
 
Kingsborough's own inside-the-park home run, off the bat of John Burnett in the bottom of the third, gave the Wave a 2-1 lead, but the Express responded in the top of the fourth, as Jesus Hilario scored on a throwing error to even the score at two.
 
But with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth, one in the bottom of the sixth and three in the bottom of the seventh, Kingsborough took the lead against the Express and extended it out to 10-2 to pick up an seven-inning, run-rule shortened victory against Monroe.
 
Andy Rodriguez (0-2) took the loss for the Express, who drop to 0-5 on the season.
 
Valdez went 1-for-3 with his inside-the-park home run, while Hilario led the Express at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
 
The Express are back in action on Friday, March 30 when they again head to Brooklyn, N.Y. to take on Kingsborough Community College at 4 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
