LOCH SHELDRAKE, N.Y., February 20, 2018 – Three players scored in double figures, but the Monroe Express women's basketball team fell to the Sullivan County Community College Generals on Tuesday, 81-49.
Though the Express trailed by just 13 at the half, 39-26, the Generals pulled away in the second half, outscoring Monroe by six in the third quarter and 13 in the fourth to pick up a 81-49 victory.
Frances Morales led the Express with 15 points, adding seven rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block.
Briyanna Graham joined Morales in double figures with 11 points to go along with seven steals, six rebounds and six assists, while
Ariana Jones added 10 points on 5-for-7 shooting.
As a team, the Express shot just 32.1 percent from the floor and 30.3 percent from beyond the arc. With the loss, Monroe drops to 6-15 on the season.
The Express are back in action on Thursday, Feb. 22 when they travel to Valhalla, N.Y. to wrap up their season series with the Westchester Community College Vikings at 7 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
