Monroe Express Men’s Basketball Storms Past ASA-Manhattan, 88-52

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., December 4, 2018 – The Monroe Express men's basketball team topped ASA-Manhattan, 88-52, on Tuesday at the Monroe Athletic Complex, snapping a three-game losing streak to move to 4-5 (2-4 Region XV) on the season.
 
The Express opened the first half on an 8-0 run and never looked back, taking a 45-29 lead into halftime and leading by as many as 39 in the second half before picking up an 88-52 victory over the Mad Titans.
 
Gian Batista scored a team-high 25 points, shooting 57.1 percent (8-of-14) from the floor. Christopher Davis, Ghetty Dimitri Allui and Moussa Sanogo each tallied 12 points, while Thyj Peterson and Dashawn Hines scored 10 points apiece as six Express players scored in double-figures.
 
Hines also added 10 rebounds for his for his fourth double-double of the year, while Khalik Johnson led the Express on the defensive end with six steals.
 
The Express scored 45 points off 42 Mad Titan turnovers while recording 24 steals, the most in program history.
 
The Express next travel to Garden City, N.Y. to take on Nassau Community College on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 8 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
