NEW YORK, N.Y., November 30, 2018 – The Monroe Express men's basketball team fell to the Borough of Manhattan Community College Panthers on Thursday, 113-89.
Ghetty Dimitri Allui led the way with 23 points and 15 rebounds, but the Panthers proved to be too much for the Express. BMCC jumped out to an early first half lead, and although the Express were able to close the gap midway through the quarter, taking the lead with 8:33 to play in the first, the Panthers stormed back to take a 16-point lead into halftime.
BMCC outscored the Express, 59-43, in the first half, and pulled away with a 54-point second half to pick up an 113-89 victory.
Allui recorded his first double-double of the season with 23 points and 15 rebounds, while
Dashawn Hines added 21 points and six boards.
Gian Batista joined the duo in double-figuers with 19 points and seven boards, while
Tyhj Peterson tallied a team-high 10 assists.
With the loss, the Express fall to 3-5 (1-4 Region XV) on the season, while the Panthers remain undefeated, 10-0 (5-0 Region XV).
The Express will look to snap a three-game losing skid when they return home to take on the ASA-Manhattan Mad Titans on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
